SIDBI’s Support for North Eastern Region (NER)

The Bank accords special and focused attention to the development of North Eastern Region (NER) in terms of micro finance, rural industrialisation, handicraft cluster development, entrepreneurship development, marketing support, etc. The details of programmes supported in NER are as under:

The Bank has supported about 450 EDPs in NER benefiting about 18000 budding entrepreneurs, 200 skill development programmes benefiting about 5000 persons, 120 exhibitions / seminars / workshops benefiting about 16000 participants and about 60 one-day Financial Literary Camps benefiting about 4000 participants. The Bank has also supported about 60 Cluster Development Programmes (CDPs) in different states of NER covering activities like bamboo mat weaving, carpet weaving, handicrafts, handloom weaving, pottery, bee keeping, making fish feed products, etc. These cluster development initiatives have cumulatively benefited around 8000 artisans. Under the Bank’s Micro Enterprises Promotion Programme (MEPP), 25 districts in NER have been covered so far resulting in cumulative promotion of about 3000 units. Sustainable Promotion of bamboo based MSE Clusters in Backward States (EU-Switch Asia Bamboo Project): SIDBI is implementing a project for sustainable promotion and development of bamboo based MSEs in nine backward States viz. Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and five NER States (Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh & Mizoram) under MEPP model with an overall objective to foster consumption of bamboo as a sustainable substitute of timber in building construction and furniture industries and promote sustainable enterprises in this sector
